Hazel Edwards Williams

She was born September 30, 1915, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Ervin and Laura Susan Edwards. She lived in the Union Grove community all her life and was a wonderful and loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a long-time member of Winthrop Friends Meeting.

She was married to the late J.C. Williams for 53 years. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Derlie M. Campbell; two sons, Ronald and Larry Williams; two sisters, Nina Crotts and Ozelle Reid; two brothers, Hoyte and Gordon Edwards; a great-granddaughter, Ann McHugh; and a great-grandson, Christopher Williams.

Hazel is survived by four daughters, Janice Massengill of Butner, Melba (Mike) Green and Shelba Bissell, both of Statesville, and Kathy (Ray) Williams of Creedmoor; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren..

Funeral service celebrating Hazel’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Winthrop Friends Meeting with the Rev. Harold Salmons and Judy Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in the Winthrop Friends Meeting Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Wednesday at the church prior to the service. At other times, the family will assemble at the home of Shelba Bissell, 2421 Falcon Lane, Statesville.
