Harlan Casey Templeton, 68, of Union Grove, North Carolina, stepped into the Glory of God, his Father and Savior Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Gordon Hospice House, after a brave, seven year battle with cancer. He was born in Iredell County, North Carolina, on June 23, 1955, to the late Robert L. Templeton and Clara Lunsford Templeton.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Harriet Poplin Templeton; his son, Casey E. Templeton; his brother, Randy Templeton (Susan); his sister Angela VanHoy (Brent); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Harlan graduated from both North Iredell High School and from Haywood Technical College. He had a strong sense of love for his family and also for his community, retiring after 30 years of service as a Lieutenant in the Civil Division of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department. He was a troop leader for New Hope BSA 618 for several decades and was a member of Union Grove Christian Church.
Harlan enjoyed farming, hunting, and playing the bagpipes. He was an avid history buff, and was especially interested in the Civil War and in WWII.
Visitation for Mr. Templeton will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, at Union Grove Christian Church, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m., with Pastor Bradley Daniels, Tom Thomas, and Sam Childs officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Grove Christian Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ron Mack, Dale Tilley, Irvin Poplin, Donnie Bost, Robert Williams, Daniel Gregory, Eddie Gregory, Isaac Gregory, Lance Carson, Brent Stepp, Richard Smith, and Kristian Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, North Carolina 28625; Union Grove Christian Church, 1855 W. Memorial Highway, Union Grove, North Carolina 28689; or to New Hope BSA Troop 618, 5762 Wilkesboro Highway, Union Grove, North Carolina 28689.
