Grace was born September 9, 1957 in Iredell County to the late Walter Lee Rosby and Viola Gray Rosby. She graduated from Statesville High School, Mitchell Community College, and Winston Salem State University receiving a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. She retired from the Department of Social Services in Statesville, NC in 2014 after 28 years of service.
Grace married Darrell Keith Turner on February 28, 1981 and was married for 35 years. They were blessed with 2 sons: Derrick and Corey Turner.
Grace joined Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in 1982 and served faithfully in various positions such as Youth Choir Director, Deaconess Board, Christian Education Leader, Assistant Church Secretary, Women’s Ministry, Youth Leader of Wednesday Night services, Spiritual Choir member, and 7am Sunday Prayer Ministry.
Grace joined Life Missions Church in March 2013 where she and Keith were co-founders. Grace loved local and foreign missions, and was on the board of directors of LifeHope Ministries. She was actively involved in feeding children in Honduras as well as feeding hungry children in Statesville. Grace also loved Senior adults and led a Bible study with Life Church at Jurney’s Assisted living. She was also active bringing God’s word to the local Prison Ministry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a half brother Curtis Ridley of Columbus, Ohio and Brother in Law Woody Woodard of Statesville, NC.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Darrell Keith Turner, sons Derrick Tyrone Turner of Raleigh, NC and Corey Leon Turner of Charlotte, NC, grandson Derrion Ny’zer Turner, adopted daughter Latonya Viola Turner of Mt .Airy, NC, and godson Chanceton Gibson. Two brothers, Terry Lee Rosby of Statesville, NC, and Dr. David Keith (Sharon) Rosby of Louisburg, NC. Three sisters, Joanna Gray (Thomas) Ramseur, Ann Brown of Pulaski, VA, Dorothy Woodard of Statesville, NC. Brother in Law Harry “Bo” Turner (Brenda) of Stony Point, NC. Godmothers: Mary (Franklin) Derr of Statesville, NC, Brenda (Frank) Nesbit of Statesville, NC, and Minnie Dotson of Union Grove N.C.
God sisters Pam (Dr. Michael) Miller, Sheila Jolly, and Sandy (Jimmy) Campbell.
Special Friends: Tawanna Watkins, Paula White, Judy Mullins, Bobbie Adams, Bonnie Bellamy, Rev. Dale (Trina’) Gibson, Priscilla Bowman, Linda Chambers, Bryant Gabriel, Christian Campbell and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 2-3:15 pm at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:30 pm in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson. Burial will follow at Belmont Cemetery.
During any other time the family will be gathering at the home of Darrell Keith Turner.
