Grace Perry Taylor, 100, of Statesville, died on Monday December 26, 2011 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. She was born on May 30, 1911 to Myrtle and George Perry of Allegany County. She was a graduate of Piney Creek High School in 1927 and worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement. A lifelong Baptist, Mrs. Taylor help found Scottville Baptist Church in 1925, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir at Sparta Baptist Church, and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Statesville.
In 1932, Mrs. Taylor married Mr. Walter R. Taylor, also of Allegany County. They were married for 69 and one-half years until Mr. Taylor passed away at the age of 94 in 2001. Mrs. Taylor is also preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Ruth Perry Shultz, and brother-in-law Mr. Frank Schultz, of Maryland and Statesville.
Surviving Mrs. Taylor are five nieces and nephews and their familes: Dr. and Mrs. Thomas T. Thompson; Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey W. White; Mr. and Mrs. Guy F. Taylor, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. John M. Harper, Jr., and Ms. Ann Taylor . Pallbearers are Mr. Jeffrey W. White; Mr. Guy F. Taylor, Jr.; Mr. Dryden Taylor; Mr. Andy Gowder; Mr. Kurt Taylor; Mr. Hewitt Linyard and Mr. James Templeton.
Funeral services will held on Friday December 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville conducted by Dr. Jeff Porter, Pastor of First Baptist Church, and Dr. Jack Causey, Retired Pastor of First Baptist Church. Graveside services will be conducted by Reverend Reeves Jones of Scottville Baptist Church at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Sparta at 2:30 P.M. The family will receive friends and family at 10:00 a.m and after burial at the Mount Zion United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
