Mrs. Edna Cleo Cook Steelman, 96, of 174 Pine Tree Road, died Monday at Gordon Hospice House. She was a native of Iredell County, born May, 22, 1916 and was the daughter of the late Robert and Viola Anderson Cook. She was married to Walter E. Steelman, Sr., who died in June of 1989. She was a former employee of Brenton Textiles.
Mrs. Steelman is survived by a son: Walter Steelman, Jr. (Judy) of Statesville, one brother: Charles F. Cook of Clemmons, two sisters: Martha Osterhout of Charlotte and Colleen Parker of Courtney. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son: Herman Steelman and two daughters: Carolyn Flower and Sylvia Steelman, Siblings; Effie Joyner, Lottie Bracken, Evelyn Gross, Margaret McCaskill, Mary Adams, Rachael Barnard, Jim Cook, Edger Cook, and Robert Cook.
Funeral services celebrating Mrs. Steelman's life will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Fluke officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Lee Steelman, George Becker, Aaron Becker, Coty Johnson, Robert Barker and Ben Warren. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Lee and Scott Flower.
