On May 24, 2024, our Savior welcomed home one of the most faithful servants, Drema Gaye Stewart Byrd of Statesville, North Carolina. Peacefully she left this life and entered into her heavenly home rejoicing, finally beholding her Savior face to face.
Those who knew Drema know that she lived her life to serve the Lord and to lead her family to Him.
Drema was born August 29, 1941 in Kanawha County, West Virginia to the late Joseph E. Stewart and Iva Hundall Stewart.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Russell Ferrell, who passed away in 1990; one daughter, Annette F. Bass; one son, William Ferrell; four brothers, Hubert, Roger, Larry and Billy Stewart; three sisters, Jean S. Phalen, Norma S. Lanham and Phyllis S. Atha; and two granddaughters, Danielle and Emily.
Drema went to Fayetteville High School and later worked for Martin Marietta in Florida. She was a 30+ year member of the Statesville Full Gospel Tabernacle – The Wave, where she served in various areas.
On December 29, 1993, Drema married Richard D. Byrd and together they shared 30 years of marriage. Their love for each other shone bright, and together they shared in ministry, declaring the love of Christ.
Drema loved to play the piano and sing. She sang and played with several local groups over the years. Her and Richard assisted with several rest home ministries, visited those shut-in and always have encouraged her family and others to have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Her concern for others was evident as she gave out Christian tracts and always loved sharing articles and Christian magazines with other to bless them.
So much can be shared about Drema Byrd, for she touched everyone that she met in a special way.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard D. Byrd of the home; Wesley and Jeffrey Ferrell, Debbie Lammers, Libby Eaders, Michael Byrd, Tim Byrd; grandchildren, David , Nicki , and Joseph, Josh. Dylan, Jared, EW, Benjamin and Nevaeh; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the Statesville Full Gospel Tabernacle – The Wave, 135 Village Point Drive Statesville, NC.
The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM with Pastors Max E. Hayes and Tammy H. James officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
