Born September 29, 1929 in Iredell County, he was the son of the late Rome Brooks Lackey and Carrie Moose Lackey.
Mr. Lackey graduated from high school and proudly served in the United States Navy as a Medic during the Korean conflict. He then worked for the City of Los Angeles, California for many years.
Donald was strong in his Christian faith. He attended Western Avenue Baptist Church until his health began to decline. For the last year, he resided at the North Carolina State Veteran’s Home in Salisbury, NC.
During his life, he was an author and was a member of the Elk Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Glenn Alan Lackey, who passed on August 11, 2012.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Barbara Caren L. Sun of Lomita, CA; son, Gregory L. Lackey of Torrance, CA; step-daughter, Laura A. McRae of Pocatello, ID; brothers, Jerry B. Lackey (JoAnn) of High Point and David C. Lackey (Margaret) of Statesville; sisters, Loreece L. Shaw of Trinity, NC and Judy L. Bess of Statesville and one step-grandson, Patrick Howell.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Cokie Bristol and Rev. Andy Lackey officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Iredell County Veteran’s Burial Detail.
Memorial donations may be made to the Elk Lodge.
