Born in Iredell County on April 27, 1929, he was the son of the late David Glenn McCoy, Sr. and Daisy Been Wilhelm McCoy. His mother passed away when he was eight years old. His step-mother was Allie Warren McCoy.
David served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married the late Dorothy Marlow McCoy in 1954, and she passed away in 1997. They shared 43 years together.
David worked for Statesville Chair Company, which later moved to Conover as Classic Leather Company, from where he retired after many years of service. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints in Statesville, where he served in various positions since he became a member in 1954. David was very involved with the church and community, always serving others. He volunteered for many years at Yokefellow Ministries.
In addition to his parents, step-mother and his wife, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Billie Morrison, Mary Ann Summers, Rex McCoy, Donald McCoy, Ronald McCoy, Tom McCoy and James McCoy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Edward (Vicki) McCoy of Statesville, Patricia (Alex) Medlin of Mooresville, and Cynthia (Gary) Covington of Greensboro. He is further survived by eight grandchildren, Chad McCoy, Ashley (Michael) DeLane, Justin (Kasey) McCoy, Gerald (Robin) Neel, Todd (Lisa) Neel, Brad (Sarah) Neel, Aaron (Kode) Tingey and Laura (Jared) Covington; ten great-grandchildren, Holly Currin, Justin Stutts, Joshua Stutts, Chris Neel, Levi Prior, Logan McCoy, Zandra DeLane, Chad McCoy, Jr., Sydnie McCoy and Ellie McCoy. David is also survived five great-great children, Parker, Reed, Elsie Kate, Jackson and Benjamin; and sisters-in-law, Janet McCoy and Lorene (Carroll) Gilleland.
The family will receive friends Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM in the church sanctuary with Bishop Ray Ruppe officiating. David will be laid to rest at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
