He was born in Iredell County on June 21, 1943, and was a son of the late Edgar Woodrow and Mary Sue Robinette James. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Garrett Tomlin. David was a disability retired auto parts manager and an avid deer hunter. He also enjoyed wood working, cooking, working on and painting cars and spending time with his beloved family and friends.
On November 23, 1963, he married his wife Norma who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Micheal James and his wife, Jan, of Stony Point and Rodney James and his wife, Bobbie, of Statesville, a daughter, Donna Tomlin and her husband, Rodney of Olin and grandchildren: Tyler and Kaitlynn Tomlin, Bria, Lane and Walker James and Ben St. John. Also surviving are a brother, Robert James and his wife, Virginia of Granite Falls and two sisters, Doris Wilcox and her husband, Donnie of Statesville and Julia Stikeleather and her husband, Dale of Stony Point along with a sister-in-law, Betty Miller of Statesville.
Services celebrating David's life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Front St. Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Addison and Rev. Gary Blalock officiating. Active pallbearers will be: Micheal James, Rodney James, Rodney Tomlin, Tyler Tomlin, Don Stewart and Ronnie Everidge. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Bill Redmond, Wayne Sloan, Tony Ostwalt, Allen Sells, Dale Bess and Gary Call. He will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service and burial will follow in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will assemble at the residence of the deceased and will receive friends from 6:30 until 9:00 P.M. Sunday evening at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
