He was born August 29, 1949, in Rocky Mount, Virginia, and was the son of Harry Vester Boone, Jr. and Clarma Allen Boone. He attended the NC Governor’s School in math, was salutatorian of the Statesville High School Class of 1967, and was a UNC Morehead Scholarship finalist. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Duke University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science and attended the University of North Carolina School of Law where he was selected for the first-year law review. He was owner and operator of Boone’s Country Store in the Monticello community and was a faithful attendee at Monticello Baptist Church. He was twice named the N.C. young Republican of the Year and was a member of the Republican Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp #387. Mr. Boone, politically active since his college career, served on statewide campaigns and was active in the National College Republican Association and the N.C. Republican Party. He was currently serving in his third term as an Iredell County Commissioner.
He is survived by his parents, Vester and Clarma Boone of Statesville; four brothers, Joseph Allen Boone of Los Angeles, CA, Harry Walton Boone (Zan Schuweiler) of Atlanta, GA and Spartenburg, SC, John Dayton Boone of Reno, NV, and Benjamin Vester Boone (Alice Daniel) of Fresno, CA; and three nephews, Hans Walton “Walt” Boone of Atlanta, GA, and Atticus Daniel Boone and Noah-Asher Daniel Boone both of Fresno, CA.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM today (Tuesday, April 29) at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
Funeral service celebrating David’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at First Baptist Church (815 Davie Avenue) with the Rev. Bobby Henderson, pastor of Monticello Baptist Church, officiating officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Gene Houpe, Steve Johnson, Hal Jolly, Matt McCall, Ron Smith and Ron Wyatt will serve as pallbearers. Fellow Iredell County Commissioners, Iredell County governmental staff and members of the Republicans Men’s Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
