Born in Wilkes County on August 25, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William Isaac Lunsford and Ella Jarvis Lunsford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leslie Templeton on August 20, 1991; three brothers, Colonel (Duck) Lunsford, Ray (Nell) Lunsford and Herbert Lunsford and six sisters, Gertha (Ted) Foster, El (Gabe) Heintz, Hessie (John) Howard, Nora (Archie) Stepp, Rose (Zeno) Proctor, and Lora (M.P.) Rupard.
When most of her age was retiring, Clara started and operated a retail clothing business called Clara’s Clothing. During her 40 years of operation, her business had the privilege to dress hundreds of ladies across the country.
Clara was an active member of Smith Chapel Church in Union Grove for several years until her health began to decline.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Randy (Susan) Templeton, Angela (Brent) Van Hoy of Olin and Harlan (Harriet) Templeton, all of Union Grove; five grandchildren, Skye (Katie) Templeton, Laura Templeton, Lesley (Justin) Anderson, Julie Van Hoy and Casey Templeton; two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Riley Templeton; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Lunsford and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Smith Chapel Church and at other evening times at the residence of Harlan Templeton.
The service celebrating Clara’s coronation day and her life will begin at 4:00 PM, Sunday, May 15, 2016 in the church sanctuary with Rev. Jordon Grogon, Pastor, Rev. Sam Childs, Rev. Tom Thomas and Rev. Allen Lunsford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the Smith Chapel Church Cemetery Fund P.O. Box 74 Union Grove, NC 28689 or to Gordon Hospice House 2341 Simonton Road Statesville, NC 28625.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Steve Heintz, Mike Heintz, Brent Stepp, Justin Anderson, Mark Rupard, Brent Van Hoy, Kent Lunsford and Skye Templeton. Honorary pallbearer will be Casey Templeton.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Journey’s Assisted Living, Gordon Hospice House, Miller Family Practice and Dr. Joshie for their love and care of Mrs. Templeton.
