Born October 26, 1922 in Iredell County, NC, he was the third of eight born to the late Louis Washington and Margaret Shell Stevenson. He was raised in the Loray Community and attended Concord Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of Clemmons First Baptist Church until his passing. Charles graduated from Scotts High School in 1940 and made his way to Baltimore, Maryland where he worked in the shipyards before joining the Navy as a submariner. He spent the later part of WWII in the South Pacific Ocean and Guam. Leaving the Navy he later found himself at Southern Screw in Statesville where he worked as a toolmaker for many years. He then moved to Winston-Salem where he worked for AMP Inc. until retirement in 1994. Not content to sit still, he continued to farm and ranch commercially until the age of 93.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Munday Stevenson; second wife, Hazel Gregory Stevenson; daughter, Gail Stevenson Alexander; infant son, Loren Carlton Stevenson; granddaughter, Tina K. Alexander; brothers, John L. and William "Bill" Stevenson and sisters, Dorothy Beckham and Lina Murdock.
Survivors include his son, Adrian J. Stevenson and special friend, Tina Romano; granddaughters, Nikki Alexander Key, Amanda Alexander Kuhlman and Audrey Alexander; four great-grandsons; sisters, Ethel Morrison and Nancy Caselles; brother, Frank Stevenson and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 2pm in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Monday, December 4, 2017 from 6-8pm at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
