He was born May 18, 1929, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Spencer and Nettie Barker Henderson. He attended Olin School. He was employed by the N.C. State Bridge Department as a welder. He was also a tree surgeon and once assisted in the trimming of the trees at the governor's mansion in Raleigh, NC. He was a talented landscaper who grew beautiful flowers and gardens, and he also loved keeping up the grounds at his church, Northview Wesleyan Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Henderson, two sisters, Catherine Templeton (Bruce) and Evelyn Campbell Henderson, three brothers, Jimmy, Donnie and Wade Henderson and a brother-in-law, Earl (Mac) Trivette and a sister-in-law, Irene Trivette Tutterrow (Donald).
He is survived by his wife, Ardina Trivette Henderson, who will cherish his memory. He was her husband, her friend and the beloved love of her life. Also surviving is a brother, Flake Henderson (Suzie), a brother-in-law, Nathan Trivette (Elizabeth), a sister-in-law, Sadie Trivette, 9 nieces: Martha Templeton (Eddie), Marcella Tutterrow (Scott), Mandy Trivette, Terrie Redmond (Chad), Emily Trivette, Annie Tutterrow, Cindy Trivette Whalen (Richard), Sidney Trivette and Kate Tutterrow, 12 nephews: Mike Trivette, Charles Trivette, Bryan Tutterrow, James Tutterrow, Jacob, Matthew and Brennan Tutterrow, Jed Reavis, Randy and Alan Anderson, Clayton Campbell and Adam Tutterrow; and a great-great-nephew, Aidan Tutterrow.
Services celebrating Buford's life will be conduted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday September 3, 2011, at Northview Wesleyan Church, where he was a member. He will lie in state and the family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.
