He was born July 14, 1936, in Catawba County and was the son of the late Joseph Calvin and Helen Hedrick Brown. He was a 1954 graduate of Celeste Henkel High School in Statesville and was a veteran of the US Army. Prior to his return to Statesville in 2003, he was a resident of Greensboro for 42 years where he was owner and operator of Brown & Brown Masonry Contractors, Inc. He was a long-time and active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Gibsonville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Brown Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Deane Cash Brown, whom he married on June 28, 1958; a daughter, Kellye Brown Proctor and her husband, William Ashton Proctor, Jr.; a step-grandson, William Ashton Proctor III, all of Cornelius; a sister, Ruby Brown Garges and her husband, Varney, of Charlotte; two nieces; and four nephews.
Funeral services celebrating Bobby’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 14, 2012, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Leo Fair officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens with military honors being accorded by Iredell County Veterans’ Council Burial Detail.
William Ashton Proctor, Jr., Jeff Boyers, Larry Speelman, Cary Cash, Jerry Goble, and Tripp Clendenin will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
