Audrey Sneed Higgins

Audrey was born on October 20, 1940, in Gurley, Alabama, to the late James Monroe Sneed and Margie Rosette Champion Sneed. Audrey graduated from Gurley High School in 1959, and married William Sanderson Higgins on July 9, 1960.

She and her husband lived in Columbus, Georgia, where they had many dear friends. She taught line dancing and she loved to garden. She also loved going to reunions with her high school friends. After her husband’s passing, she moved to North Carolina to be with family.

Audrey was a long-term survivor of ovarian cancer. Thankfully, she was in remission for several years. She fought long and hard through many chemo treatments, but she finally passed away in her sleep.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brothers, James Sneed and Charles David Sneed.

Audrey is survived by her 3 children, Melissa H. Tompkins (Tim), Carol H. Cory (Mark), and Rev. William Higgins (Stacey); her grandchildren, Amanda Tompkins, Holly T. Hinceman (Eric), Marie H. Salazar (Richard), Annaliese Higgins, Julina H. Metz (Harold), and Benjamin Cory; and her great grandchildren, Carter Hinceman, Gemma Hinceman, and Audrey Tompkins-Horne.

A graveside memorial service for Audrey will be held on Saturday, July, 22, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at Parkhill Cemetery, in Columbus, Georgia. Her son, Rev. William Higgins, will officiate.
