He was born October 30, 1930, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Daniel Allen and Naomi Goodman Perry. He was a lifelong farmer and retired truck driver from Swing Transport. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and a man with a strong Christian faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Perry Honeycutt.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Morris Perry, whom he married on December 23, 1950; three children, Mike (Jodi) Perry and Sandy (Dwight) Fraver, both of Statesville, and Tim (Janet) Perry of Carolina Beach; nine grandchildren, Crystal (Ryan) Douglas, David (Tracie) Perry, Will (Amanda) Perry, Niki Clontz, Jeremy (Ashley) Thompson, Eric Thompson (Courtney Houston), Daniel Perry, Kelsey Perry and Jamie Clontz; four step-grandchildren, Kitty (Mark) McFarland, Cheri Poss, Brook Poss, and Shawn (Erin) Fraver; eight great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; his beloved dog, Molly; and a brother-in-law, James E. Honeycutt of Mooresville.
Funeral service celebrating Alvin’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 26, 2015, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Wesley Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, May 25, 2015, at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
