Alice Efird Griffin, age 89, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 after a few years of declining health. She was born October 5, 1925 in Davie County and was the daughter of the late Carl and Anna Belle Williams Efird.
Alice graduated from Cool Springs High School, Cleveland, NC and continued her education in business. She held high level business positions in her career including head bookkeeper of High point Savings and Loan, High Point, NC; bookkeeper for the City of High Point; director of finance for K-Mart, Inc. of Tampa, FL and personnel director of Wonderknit Corp. of Mocksville.
After her retirement from Wonderknit she was an Avon salesperson, and the past years of her life she spent running her farm on Mocksville Hwy. She had Perdue laying hens and enjoyed her farm life very much.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Robert Richard Griffin whom she married at the end of WWII on his return from duty in the US Navy; one daughter, Barbara Jean Griffin Rudisel; two brothers, Lester and Herman Efird and one sister, Ellen Fay Efird.
Alice is survived by one daughter, June Johnson; three grandchildren, Maria Howell, Justin and Christine Rudisel. Also left to cherish her memory are her two sisters, Lois E. James of Harmony and Elsie E. Brown (JW) of Mocksville; her sister-in-law, Carol Efird of Yadkinville; cousin, Pat V. Ingram (Ed) of Mooresville. Alice leaves several nieces and nephews that loved her very much, including nephews Max James and Don Brown, and Pat Ingram for the loving care of Alice. She had many beloved longtime friends.
The memorial service will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. B.N. Black and Rev. Kenneth Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Salem United Methodist Church cemetery in Davie County.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service on Wednesday.
Serving as pallbearers will be Max James, Don Brown, Donnie Brown, Stephen Brown, Scott Efird and Gary Goodin.
