Mrs. Kay McCormick Proctor, age 73, passed away on Monday, January 16 at her home in Brooklet. She was the widow of Elder Emory Proctor to whom she was married for fifty years. She spent her active work life as a teacher in the public schools of Georgia. Mrs. Proctor was a native of Bulloch County and graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School, Brooklet, Georgia in 1956. She attended Georgia Southern College receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and went on to obtain her Master’s Degree and her Education Specialist Degree. In her teaching career, she taught in the schools of Chatham County, Dougherty County, and Meriwether County. In addition to teaching science, she was involved in many extra-curricular activities, including sponsor of the Science Club, and coach of the cheerleaders and tennis team. She retired from teaching in 1993 after 31 years of service. She and her husband spent their retirement years in their native Bulloch County. Her husband, being a minister, they devoted their retirement years to many areas of pastoral ministry and other church activities. Mrs. Proctor was preceded in death by her parents, John and Thetis McCormick; her two brothers John Theus and Harry McCormick; one sister, June McCormick Proctor.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Rosalyn K. Proctor of Augusta; her daughter and son-in-law, Emily Proctor Strickland and Jon Strickland of Dallas, Georgia; her grandchildren, Ben and Erin Proctor, Logan and Kaylan Ray, and Brandon and Kayla Strickland; two brothers-in–law, Elder Emerson Proctor and William C. Proctor; many nieces and nephews; and her special caregivers, Diane Blair and Michelle Waters.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Lanes Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Lee Chambers and Elder Emerson Proctor officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Burial will be in the Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Wayne Carson, Patrick McCormick, Derek Proctor, Mike Proctor, David Proctor, Ronnie Proctor, Mark Proctor and Terry Proctor.
