Karen Louise West, born May 14, 1964, age 50, passed away Friday December 19th, 2014. Karen was a 1983 graduate of Tompkins High School. After graduation she enlisted in the U.S. Army where she served as a medic until her honorable discharge in 1992. During her military career she received an Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon and Numeral 1, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Sharpe Shooter Badge, Rifle Bar and Army Lapel Button. Karen was a graduate of Savannah College of Arts and Design. After graduating from “SCAD” she worked at a local television station, appearing in commercials and was also a designer for a large retail department store in Savannah. Karen had a wonderful personality and” never met a stranger”. Loving animals, she recently volunteered for PETA. She helped collect blankets and coats for disabled and homeless veterans, and was a volunteer for Relay for Life. She was inspired by, and a huge fan of Lady Gaga.
Karen is survived by her father, Archie T. West and Stepmother, Margie L. West, of Brooklet; sisters, Christie Anderson Ringgold, Christy K. Thompson, Debra A. Strickland, Tanya C. Quick and brother, Archie Todd West; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
A Funeral service will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with The Reverend Cary Swanson officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Because of Karen’s love for animals, her family request that memorial contributions may be made to PETA.org in her memory.
