Mr. Joe Hudson Giddens, age 86, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday May 30, 2017 at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Giddens, a Chatham County native, lived most all of his life in Bulloch County. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Coastguard from 1948-1954, during the Korean Conflict. From 1962-1977 he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Giddens worked for ITT Grinnell for 15 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Statesboro, Fellowship Sunday School Class, the American Legion Post 90 and Alcoholics Anonymous, and also Magnolia Squares Squaredancers. Mr. Giddens is preceded in death by daughters ,Alma Freeman and Pamela Whipp; brothers, Claude Giddens, “Tiny” Giddens, Jack Giddens, Thomas Bunch, Jessie Bunch; sister, Grace Giddens and parents, Joe H. and Otis Mary Giddens.
Surviving are a son, Joe Hudson Giddens, Jr., Statesboro, GA; daughter, Debra and Chris Brown, Gainsville, GA, daughter, Monica Atkins ,Puyallup,WA; sons-in-laws, Dennis Whipp, San Rafael, CA, David Freeman, Statesboro ,GA; ; sisters, Doris Eutzler, Orangevale, CA ,Sadie Driggers , Statesboro, GA, Docia B. and Aubrey Hensley, Waynesboro ,GA, and Minnie Joyner, Waynesboro, GA; brother, Eddie Bunch, Statesboro; and five grandchildren, Mary Peyton Freeman, Annabelle Brown, Emma Freeman, Hudson Brown and Harrison Brown.
A gathering of friends and family will be Friday, June 2, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home on Friday June 2, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. with the Reverend John Waters officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church.
The family request memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 108 North Main Street Statesboro, Ga 30458.
