George Richard Loy, 81, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 following an extended illness. He was a native of Annville, Pennsylvania, and was of the Protestant faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Beatrice Loy. Mr. Loy retired from the Air Force, with 22 years of active service, and was stationed in Statesboro with his family as part of the Air Force SAC Unit during the Vietnam War. SAC was a satellite unit set up at the Bulloch County Airport. Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1970, he worked for Blackstone/ITT Grinnell/Tyco Labs, as a metallurgist up 'til retirement age. He loved working with his hands in his craft shop, making furniture and things for his grandchildren, family and friends. He enjoyed spending time and caring for his cat, Ralph. George loved his family and lived a simple modest life that included fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Hsiu Li Loy of Statesboro; a daughter, Louise Loy of Kenosha, Wisconsin; two sons, David (Samantha) Loy of Statesboro, Kenny (Tina) Loy of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Kevin Loy, Kayla Loy, Tegan Merritt and Andrew Loy; one sister, Jeannette Toole of District Heights, Maryland; Kayla's mother, Lisa Douglas Loy; and an endless number of friends.
Visitation will be Friday, May 6, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
He will be laid to rest in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
