Carolyn was born in Statesboro to the late David Ashley and Leila Proctor Tanner. She graduated Register High School and married Frank E. Whaley, Sr. in December 1949. She and her husband moved to Savannah in 1952, where she worked in the accounting and bookkeeping department at Dixon Contracting Company, for a short time. While in Savannah, Carolyn worked with the Gideon’s International and conducted Backyard Bible Clubs. In 1979, she and Frank returned to Statesboro to live on their family’s farm. Upon returning to Statesboro, Carolyn joined Gracewood Baptist Church and volunteered as a poll worker. She enjoyed gardening, reading and arranging flowers from her garden, which she donated to Gracewood Baptist Church for their Sunday services. Carolyn was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Statesboro.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her, husband, Frank E. Whaley, Sr.; and seven siblings.
Mrs. Whaley is survived by son, Frank E. Whaley, Jr. and his wife, Ruth of Statesboro; daughter, Linda W. Fullard and her husband, Freddie of Statesboro; brother, Mark Tanner and his wife, Thera Nell of Statesboro; four grandchildren, Matthew Coleman, Rachel Charfauros, Sara Newman and Rebecca Keen; seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Tanner, Samuel, Eleanor, Isabella, Whalen and Lilah; many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 12:30 to 2:00 PM Friday, January 25, 2019 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home immediately followed by the funeral service in the funeral home chapel, with Reverend Carl Ledbetter and Mr. Lavone Deal officiating.
Entombment will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens – Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Robert Tanner, Hikie Scott, Matthew Coleman, Vince Charfauros, Timothy Newman and Donny Keen.
