STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Lifelong Staten Islander William F. Whalen, 84, of Castleton Corners, who is remembered as a loving brother, died Tuesday in the Staten Island University Hospital, in Ocean Breeze.
Born in Elm Park, he also lived in Port Richmond before moving to Castleton Corners 40 years ago.
Mr. Whalen served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He later was a member of the National Guard.
He worked as a laborer for the former Rhicol Chemical Co. in New Jersey for many years. He retired in 1992 after working as a mechanic for the former Island Chevrolet, West Brighton.
Mr. Whalen enjoyed watching football.
He attended Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church, Bulls Head.
Surviving are his brothers, Gene, Ronald and Walter, and his sister, Rita Vigliotti.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Pity Church. Burial will follow in Calverton (L.I.) National Cemetery.
