Obituary
Devoted husband, father and grandfather
William F. McCarthy, 79, of Dongan Hills, passed away from a recent hospitalization on December 10, 2020. He is pre-deceased by his parents James and Veronica (McGurrin) McCarthy and his sister, Sharon (McCarthy) Roberto. He is survived by his brothers, James (Marion), and Thomas (Judith).
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, June nee DeRespinis, daughter, Tracy McCarthy-Norr, son, Jeffrey T. McCarthy, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth McCarthy and grandchildren, Jack Fatone, Jordan Norr, Kate Norr and Dylan McCarthy. He enjoyed completing 1000-piece puzzles, crosswords, solitaire, cruising in Europe and the Caribbean, and most especially spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who feel the impact of his loss profoundly.
A life-long islander, Bill was born in Grasmere, attended St. Peter’s High School, and Villanova University. He enjoyed his participation in alumni affairs for St. Peter’s High School until his passing. He worked in the field of IT Process improvement consulting throughout his career, spending time in various roles and positions, at St Vincent’s hospital, SIUH, Wagner College, the Staten Island VNA and even serving as Deputy Bureau Chief for the Comptroller of New York City. In addition, Bill transitioned his expertise into a role as an independent professional consultant. Bill also served on the board of the Visiting Nurse Association, as a past president of the South Shore Rotary Club, and was a founding member of the Safe Rides Anonymous with the American Red Cross on Staten Island.
Bill McCarthy will be remembered for his quick wit, a wry sense of humor and propensity to lend his time and efforts to helping others.
A wake will be held on Monday, December 14, from 3-7pm at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Avenue, Staten Island. NY. A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann’s Church on Tuesday, December 15, at 11am.
