Born and raised Virginia Fanuzzi in Bulls Head, she graduated from Port Richmond High School.
She and Jack Timpanaro met at the former Halloran General Hospital in Willowbrook, where she was working as an aide and the U.S. Army Air Forces veteran was recovering from a year spent as a prisoner of war after his plane had been shot down during World War II. They fell in love and settled in Westerleigh after their marriage. Mrs. Timpanaro relocated to Long Beach four years ago.
She worked as a telephone operator for the General Services Administration at the Bayonne Naval Base for 25 years. She retired in 1970.
Mrs. Timpanaro enjoyed traveling to Florida and Kentucky, and was fond of working crossword puzzles and visiting Atlantic City.
But she most loved spending time with her grandchildren, family said.
Jack, her husband of 61 years, died in 2009.
Surviving are her son, James; her daughter, Loriann Bernal; a brother, Joseph Fanuzzi, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's R.C. Church, both Dongan Hills. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
