With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Sheila O. Jones. After a long and courageous battle with illness, Sheila went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2025 at the age of 83. She was a woman whose strength, resilience, and faith in God were the foundation of everything she did.
She was born in Staten Island on November 9, 1941 to Patrick and Margaret O’Connor. After graduating from St. Peter’s Girls’ High School in 1959, Sheila worked as a secretary for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in lower Manhattan and later the Alcoa Steamship Company. She married her husband, William J. Jones, on June 6, 1964 and shared sixty years together throughout which their family continued to blossom. Sheila was a cherished mother of five children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. After many years as a stay-at-home mom, Sheila became a school secretary with the New York City Department of Education where she worked until retiring in 2002.
Sheila was the heart and soul of her family, always ready to listen or offer an encouraging word when it was needed. A woman of incredible strength, grace, and love, Sheila devoted her life to her family. While her illness may have taken a toll on her physical body, it never dulled the warmth of her spirit. She was a beautiful soul who endeared herself to everyone with her beautiful smile, great sense of humor, infectious laugh, and affable presence. Her home was a place of comfort and joy, where family and friends were always welcome.
Sheila leaves behind a legacy of great faith and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. She is survived by her husband William J. Jones, children Patricia Ridgeway (Stephen), William C. Jones (Elizabeth), Brian Jones, Maura Cassidy (Robert), Elizabeth Jones, grandchildren Cody (Kelsey), Connor, Kiera, Isla, and Jack, great-grandchildren Liam and Luke, and brother, Dennis O’Connor, and many other family members and friends whose lives she touched in profound ways.
A memorial service will be held on April 24, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Harmon Funeral Home, where we will gather to celebrate her life.
Rest in peace, dear Mom. You will forever be loved and missed.
