Sanford “Sandy” A. Rosenthal, Staten Island, NY, age 85, passed away peacefully on March, 2021. Sandy was born April 25, 1935 in Brownsville Brooklyn, New York to Murray and Selma Rosenthal. He leaves behind his loving wife Doris, with whom he was married for nearly 62 years, their children Howard and Dina, daughters-in-law Mindi Rosenthal and Jane Gamble, grandchildren Jordyn Rosenthal and Jacob Gamble, all of whom he loved and touched deeply. He married the love of his life Doris on Sept. 20, 1959 and they settled in Canarsie. He and his mother started a uniform business, Simy’s Uniform World in Long Island and Queens. He loved sales so much that after retirement he continued to work as Sandy the Apron Man with the tag line, “My wife thinks I’m cheap, you should see how cheap I am!” He valued spending time with family and friends and travelling to Aruba and Las Vegas. Sandy loved playing cards, especially pinochle, poker, and bridge, and he took delight in teaching his children and grandchildren how to play board and street games, including hit the penny, checkers backgammon and chess. He also looked forward to going out to dinner with friends and loved ones. Sandy was generous of spirit, happy, friendly, supportive, loving, easy-going, and loved telling corny jokes and performing simple magic tricks
. He always wore a big smile and shared his good nature with all who were around him, including strangers. His famous greeting was “Darling, how are you?” He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Burial and grave site service at 11:15 on Wednesday March 17, 2021 at Knollwood Cemetery, 57-80 Cooper Ave, Ridgewood, NY or via Zoom. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, or plant a tree in Israel.
