Salvatore Rufolo, 75, of West Brighton, passed away on Friday after a courageous battle with illness. Born and raised in Tompkinsville, Staten Island, Salvatore was a beloved figure in his community, known for his dedication to family, his warmth, and his generosity.
Salvatore, affectionately known as Sal, was a proud Staten Islander throughout his life. He made his home in West Brighton in 1985, where he created countless cherished memories with his family. A graduate of Curtis High School,where he played football, serving as the captain during his senior year.
For over two decades, Salvatore served the city of New York as a Sanitation worker. After retiring from his role with the Sanitation Department, he drove a bus for the JCC for many years.
Outside of work, Salvatore found joy in simple pleasures. He loved attending Yankee games, soaking up the sun at the beach, swimming in the ocean, and taking leisurely walks with his dog at Silver Lake Park. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his two beloved sons, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. He adored his grandchildren, Kaylee and Salvatore, and cherished every moment he spent with them.
Salvatore will be remembered for his kind heart, his compassionate spirit, and his infectious sense of humor. Despite his own struggles with COPD, he always prioritized the needs of others above his own, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A faithful member of Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Tompkinsville, Salvatore found solace and strength in his faith. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ellen, who shared 43 years of wonderful marriage with him. He is also predeceased by his brother Anthony and sister Josephine.
Salvatore's legacy of love and kindness will live on through his sons Salvatore (Regina) and Michael, his grandchildren Kaylee and Salvatore, and the countless lives he touched along his journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude in Salvatore's honor.
Visitation for Salvatore will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, located at 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel, located at 10 Austin Pl, Staten Island, NY 10304. Salvatore's memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
