On April 6, 2022 Rudolph K. Kormann, 96 years old, went peacefully surrounded by family and friends to be reunited with his beloved wife, Alice, who predeceased him in December 2020. He was born on Staten Island February 6, 1926 to Rudolph and Augusta Kormann. He is predeceased by his sisters: Olga Shields and Matilda Percoco and his brother Arthur. Rudy, also known as Ken, lived in Grasmere with his wife Alice before they moved to Newtown, CT in 2017. He worked for The American Toy Company for a short period after returning from his service in WWII and then at Con Edison until his retirement. He served his country in WWII as a Tank Driver/Technician in the US Army 10th Armored Division. He received a Purple Heart, Silver Star, and WWII Victory Medal. Upon returning from WWII Ken met the love of his life, Alice. They married and enjoyed 66 beautiful years together. They were proud Americans, respectfully flying the American flag daily outside their home. Ken was a member of the American Legion for 75 years serving as Commander of the Patrick J. Dalessio Post #1310 for several years. He organized monthly meetings and he and Alice worked together on many activities and fund raisers. On Memorial Day he would arrange a tribute with a ceremony at the Dalessio Post War Memorial on Targee St. & Clove Rd. gathering their members at the monument along with students from PS 48 to lay a wreath and salute our fallen heroes. Ken was a true patriot always stopping to salute any American flag he would pass. Ken and Alice enjoyed entertaining at their home. Ken loved music and would always have his classic cassettes ready to play the big band sound and to dance with Alice at the many gatherings in their home. He enjoyed mixing his creative cocktails for their guests and never failed to have a favorite joke to share to make you laugh. He and Alice loved football and baseball season, cheering on their favorite teams together. Although they had no children of their own they loved and treasured all their many nieces, nephews, great and grand nieces and nephews. He was always ready on a moment's notice to help family, friends and those in need. Ken made many friends at Maplewood at Newtown. He enjoyed greeting residents, staff, and visitors with a smile and a special "dance routine". He loved making them laugh with his favorite jokes and stories and singing old tunes for them. Ken enjoyed the activities and was so appreciative of all the attentive services provided by the CNA's, Nursing Staff and all those who crossed his path during his day. Regional Hospice and the personal care given by Honey Bee Home Care during the past few months was gentle and kind, giving him the utmost dignity. Ken is survived by his nieces Carolyn Pisano Barone and Helinda DiLorenzo and his nephew Dennis Schmeider along with many great and grand nieces and nephews who adored him and enjoyed and treasured the time spent with him: playing cards, doing word puzzles and hearing many of his life stories. Our hearts are broken. He was our "Gentle Giant" and will be deeply missed by all. Visitation on Monday, April 11, 2022, Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM.
