Roy died peacefully in NJ and left behind a legacy of love. Roy overcame his limited abilities by possessing an unwavering zest for life. He was always happy and would repeatedly ask over and over again how those he loved were doing. He was an inspiration to those who had the honor to know him. Whether it was walking along Victory Boulevard, attending Mass at St. Teresa’s or making the rounds every day at Arbor Terrace in Middletown, which became his retirement home, he knew everyone by name and always wanted to know how you were doing.
Roy worked for over 30 years at ADP. He commuted to NYC and everyone on the SI Ferry knew him well. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Teresa’s, the Exceptional Children’s’ Social Club of SI, and Lifestyles for the Disabled. He loved his Yankees, and he could beat you at bowling.
Roy is predeceased by his Mother, Mary Lally Hettler, and his Father, Roy Hettler, Sr. Roy is survived by his sister, Cheryl Hettler and many cousins and beloved friends who cared for him.
Roy will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was one of those people you meet in life that you never forget. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. Rest well Roy. God is keeping you safe now. Roy would have celebrated his 76th Birthday in June.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5 from 4-8 pm at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Avenue, Staten Island 718-447-4242.
