Roger A. Stella, age 84, of Staten Island, New York, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Roger was born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 13, 1939, to the late Emilio and Madeline Stella. His family later moved to Staten Island, where Roger attended McKee High School. It was there that he met the love of his life, Doris, and they married on October 28, 1961.
Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960, stationed in Hawaii. After his service, he enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with Con Edison, where he worked for over 34 years as a Chief Lineman before retiring in May of 1995.
One of Roger’s great joys was vacationing in Lake George, a cherished destination throughout his life. He was also an avid fan of baseball, especially his beloved New York Yankees. His love for sports extended into his community, where he was deeply involved with St. Peter’s High School sports programs, volunteering his time and energy from 1986 through 2019, particularly in support of the basketball team.
Roger is survived by his devoted wife, Doris; his loving daughter, Deneen Stella-Johnson, and her husband Eric; his beloved son, Roger; and his cherished grandsons, Alec, Andrew, Tyler, and Anthony as well as his two sisters-in-law Bea and Jean.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Monday, September 9, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. A religious service will be held at 11:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service at noon at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 52 Tyler Ave, Staten Island, NY 10310.
