STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Robert B. Moore, 65, of Prince’s Bay, a retired city police officer and a dedicated family man who loved being with his grandchildren, died Wednesday at home, after a long illness.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, he graduated from James Madison High School. He moved to Graniteville in 1977 and also lived in other Island communities before settling in Prince’s Bay in the late 1980s.
Mr. Moore served in the U.S. Army for two years, seeing duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968 as a private first class.
He was a NYPD officer, assigned to the 9th Precinct in Manhattan, until retiring in 1981. He then became a self-employed private investigator and worked independently in private security.
Mr. Moore enjoyed scuba diving, playing football and baseball, and reading.
He attended St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, Pleasant Plains.
Surviving are his sons, Justin and Christopher; his brother, William; his sister, Mary Ellen Beggins, and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey-McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
