Otis Bazz Bruce Jr, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2019 at the age of 77. Otis was one of six children born to the late Willie and Otis Bazz Bruce Sr.
A native Staten Islander, Otis was a graduate of Port Richmond H.S.
where he was also a standout first baseman.
Known as “Big O”, Otis was a well-known and a highly-regarded prospective Major League talent renowned for his smooth, lefty-swinging power hitting. Although his aspirations for going pro were cut short by injury, he continued to be a player/coach. He played for many years in the Sunday morning Twyford-Muche Majors and B.A Jewelers Twilight Baseball Leagues.
Otis enjoyed a 35 year career as a technical sales manager with Cine60, known for its’ cinematic lighting and technical film support. Otis was a truck driver for F&B Ceco and bartender at various SI social clubs.
He was an avid New York Mets and New York Jets fan. He enjoyed shooting pool, solving word puzzles and friendly debates.
Otis was an engaging individual who will always be remembered for his friendly and sociable personality.
Left to mourn his loss and cherish his memories are his sons Otis, Lyle and Devin Bruce; sisters Yvonne Williams, Betty McClendon, Eleanor Williams, and Linda Rohan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Bruce Etheridge and wife Dolores Bruce.
A memorial service will be held at Harmon Funeral Home on September 6th from 11:00-1:00.
