County Donegal native raised six children on Staten Island
Nora Gallagher, 85, born in Meenderryhirk, County Donegal, Ireland, on Sept. 25, 1933.
Nora came to America in 1958, married Bernard Gallagher and raised six children on Staten Island before moving to Brooklyn.
Nora worked in Manhattan and Staten Island for many years. After her husband's death and her retirement, Nora was actively involved with her parish, St. Adalbert's, and volunteered many years at St. Vincent's Hospital (now Richmond University). Nora was known as a great singer and lead many sessions of Irish singing at gatherings and events.
Nora will be deeply missed by her six loving children, Bridget, Bernard, Rose, Eileen, Charles and Bernadette; their spouses, Trish, Kevin and Jerry; her grandchildren, Liam, Tova and Toni; and her siblings, Alice, Rose, Jimmy and Mary.
Viewing will be at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. 10310 on Sunday, Jan. 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday, Jan. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Adalbert's Church, 355 Morningstar Rd., Staten Island, N.Y. 10303 on Tuesday, Jan.29, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Saint Peter's Cemetery, 52 Tyler Ave., Staten Island. Repast will be held at The Staaten , 697 Forest Ave., Staten Island, N.Y., at 12:30 p.m.
Memorial donations in memory of Nora may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
