Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother
Loving, devoted family man and long-time Staten Islander Nicodemo “Nick” Lombardo, 83, passed away on September 2, 2016, surrounded by his family. "He fought his injuries to the bitter end, and never lost his love or will to live," said his wife of 58 years, Angela Lombardo. “I will miss him immensely.”
Nicodemo was born on September 10, 1932 in Calabria, Italy to the late Francesco and Annunziata Lombardo. Nicodemo was one of eight children. He came to America in 1955 and moved his family to Dongan Hills in 1965. Nick was a parishioner of St. Ann’s Church for many years. He was a long time employee of Brooklyn Union Gas where he proudly and skillfully worked as a backhoe operator and was a loyal member of Local 3. Always proud of his Italian heritage, he continued the traditions that he brought with him to America and shared them with his children and grandchildren. He could always be found working in his garden sharing his stories with his grandchildren, friends and neighbors. Nicodemo was the loving husband of Angela; loving father to his three children, Nancy Harburg and her husband Eric, Julia Pellegrino and her husband Anthony and Frank Lombardo and his wife Jennifer. Doting Nonno to his six grandchildren, Nicholas Pellegrino, Nicholas Lombardo, Hans Harburg, Victoria Pellegrino, Alexander Lombardo and Francesca Lombardo.
Virginia Funeral Chapel, 1707 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island NY 10305 has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Family and friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at St. Ann’s Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Entombment is at Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharrott Ave., Staten Island.
