Nicholas "Nickie" Semente, aged 88, a Brooklyn born Staten Island resident, passed away on March 25, 2024 in his native Brooklyn. He was a loving, personable, compassionate, and generous man, but above all, a devoted family man who loved his “darlink” for over 70 years.
Nickie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Josephine Semente; his children Julie Semente, Anthony (Denice) Semente, Santina Hennessy, Charles Semente, and Alicia (Larry) Yorks; his grandchildren Ana Linton, Julie Linton, Tara (Owen) Murphy, Candice (Jerry) Grafal, Cassandra Semente, Daniel (April) Hennessy, Thomas Hennessy (Hope Whitman), Joseph (Ashley) Hennessy, Celina Semente (Matt Bodi), Michael Yorks, Alaina (Andrew) Santoro, and Vincent Yorks (Eva Rabson); and his great-grandson Frank Nicholas Wollak. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guilia and Antonio Semente, his sisters Rose Semente and Lucy Saponaro, and his brother Pasquale "Patty" Semente.
Nickie was first employed at Dilbert’s Dairy where he was known to everyone in the neighborhood as “Nickie Boy”, named so by Louise Corace. He then began his career as a longshoreman and retired as a checker on the pier. He was a devoted member of St. Clare Church and later watched the midnight mass every day from his beloved recliner. In his free time, he enjoyed planting seeds on the dining room table, growing tomatoes, cucuzza, and figs, fixing anything that needed fixing, crabbing, and watching his children and grandchildren play sports and music.
Visitation for Nickie will be held on April 2, 2024 from 2-9 PM at Casey McCallum Rice on Staten Island. A mass to honor and celebrate Nickie's life will be held on April 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Clare's Church on Staten Island.
Many have said he was a perfect role model of a husband and father. His legacy is the family and friends he leaves behind and all he has done for those he loved.
Eternal rest grant unto him and may perpetual light shine upon him.
