Tess was born and raised in Balla, County Mayo, Ireland, and was one of seven children. She came to America at the age of eighteen and met the love of her life, John Cameron, also a native of County Mayo, at a dance in New York City. They were happily married for 62 years before John was called home to God in 2017. Tess was blessed with seven loving children: Brendan, John, Cathy, Eileen, Rich, Nancy, and Maureen. She was the proud Nana of seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was a faithful parishioner of St. Clare’s Church and a member of the Mayo Society of New York. One of Tess’ proudest moments was being voted Mayo Woman of the Year in 2005. Tess adored her family and friends and cherished the time she spent with them. She enjoyed nothing more than inviting them for a cup of tea and a slice of her famous Irish soda bread.
She is predeceased by her husband John, grandson John Francis, brothers John, Jimmy, Patrick, and Bob, and sister Bridget.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her sister, Sarah, her sisters-in-law Noreen, Bernie, Nellie, Mary, Angela, and Catherine, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Her family will miss her dearly but are comforted knowing that John and Tess are together again.
