Born Mary Frances Moran in New Brighton, she settled in New Springville in 1981.
A graduate of the former St. Peter's Girls High School, she received her diploma in nursing in 1952 from the former St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing, Manhattan. She also received a bachelor's degree in psychology from the College of Staten Island in 1988.
She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the nursing honor society and Beta Sigma Phi International. She also belonged to the American Nurses Association and the New York State Nurses Association.
Mrs. King's career as a registered nurse spanned 46 years. Before her retirement in 1998, she worked at Staten Island University Hospital for 17 years, as a staff development instructor.
She was fond of travel and enjoyed taking religious pilgrimages. An avid reader and skilled seamstress, she also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She was a parishioner of St. Patrick's R.C. Church, Richmond, where she served as a Eucharistic minister.
Her son, Sean, died in 2008.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John; her sons, Brian and Peter; her daughters, Kathleen and Eileen King, Joan Jones and Noreen Vozzo and 12 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with an 11 am Mass in St. Patrick's Church. . Arrangements include cremation.
