Mary Barone (nee Bertucci), resident of Staten Island, New York, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at the age of 81 after a long illness. She was married to her beloved husband, James Barone, for 60 years.
She was born on November 1, 1942 in Staten Island, New York, and grew up in Dongan Hills. Mary attended Curtis High School and soon after graduation met her husband, Jim, on the Staten Island Ferry. They were married on September 15, 1963, and settled in Bay Terrace and had two daughters, Lisa and Jeanne.
Mary worked as a legal secretary in the city for many years. She enjoyed going to the beach, bingo, reading, golf, tennis, bowling and going to Atlantic City where she happily would spend all her time on the slot machines. She was a lifelong Yankees fan and loved watching game shows, especially Family Feud.
She loved her family so very much, and especially enjoyed making cookies and shelling on the beach looking for shark teeth with her grandchildren. Mary and her husband were also members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Florida. They enjoyed spending the winter months as snowbirds at their condo in Englewood and took many trips and cruises with their best friends, Ben and Betty.
Mary is survived by her husband, Jim, her daughters Lisa Schmidt and her husband Jimmy, Jeanne Ferguson and her boyfriend Frank Cear and her two grandchildren, James Schmidt and Victoria Ferguson who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her sister, Rose Keough. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dominic and Ann, and her brothers, Carmen and Dominic, and sister, Adele.
