Born Marie DiSimone, she graduated from Curtis High School. She met her future husband, Thomas Vazzana, when she was working at the Columbia Meat Market, which was owned by her family. The couple fell in love and were married in Church of the Assumption, New Brighton, during the blizzard of 1947.
Mrs. Vazzana later worked as a bank teller for Staten Island Savings Bank for more than 25 years.
Her family always came first, but she also gave generously of her time and energy as a volunteer at Clove Lakes Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Castleton Corners, the YMCA in West Brighton, and the Colonial Pals.
Mrs. Vazzana was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Granito-Smith Post, American Legion, and the Friendship Club in Castleton Corners.
She attended St. Rita’s R.C. Church, Meiers Corners, and St. Peter’s R.C. Church, New Brighton.
Thomas, her husband of 49 years, died in 1997.
Surviving are her son, Dr. Thomas; her daughters, Charlene Vazzana Athas and Virginia and Diane Marie Vazzana; her sister, Pauline DiSimone Urus; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with mass at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
