Lifelong Staten Islander Marie Russo, 80, of Sunnyside, an active member of the Assumption R.C. Church and St. Bernadino Society in New Brighton, died Friday in the Silver Lake Specialized Care Center, Brighton Heights.
Born Marie Iammatteo in New Brighton, she graduated from Curtis High School in 1949. She later lived in West Brighton before eventually settling in Sunnyside.
She worked as an executive secretary for the Bank of New York, Manhattan.
Mrs. Russo also volunteered her time with the Granito-Smith American Legion Auxiliary and Carmel Richmond Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Dongan Hills.
Her husband Vincent Russo, died in 1995.
Surviving are her sons, Jim and Michael; a daughter, Jeanette Russo Petersen, and six grandchildren.
The funeral is Tuesday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Assumption R.C. Church, New Brighton. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
