Born Maria Cioffoletti, she grew up in Queens. In 1945, she moved to Stapleton. She also lived in Tompkinsville before settling in Rosebank.
She attended the Julia Richmond High School in Manhattan.
Mrs. Scalione worked as a switchboard operator at the New York Telephone Company and as a personnel clerk at K-Mart in New Dorp. In addition, she was a poll clerk at the New York Board of Elections. She retired in 1998.
Mrs. Scaglione was a member of the Ocean Breeze AARP.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, ceramics, visiting Atlantic City and bowling in a league. She also enjoyed travel, and had visited Italy, Florida and Hawaii.
A parishioner of St. Jospeh's Church, Rosebank, she belonged to the Christian Mother's Club. She was also a member of Our Lady of Pathways Prayer Group.
Her husband of 42 years, Patsy, died in 1992.
Mrs. Scaglione is survived by her son, Patrick; her daughters, Phyllis Schreiner and Sandra Scaglione, and her brothers, Anthony and Daniel Cioffoletti.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Rosebank. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
