Marguerite C. Hunt, 85
Pioneering policewoman raised her family with love and care
Marguerite C. Hunt of Rosebank, S.I., passed away on May 14, 2019.
Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, she attended Fontbonne Hall H.S. and the NYC Police Academy, one of two women in the police academy class of 1964. For a time in the 1970s she served as the only female police officer on Staten Island. She was on the force for 20 years.
Marguerite raised four children by herself with love and care, fun, and wit. Proud of her time 'on the job' she enjoyed regaling friends and family with policewoman stories about her times undercover, on patrol and dealing with the brass. She relished spending time with loved ones including her women's clubs playing bingo and swapping stories. Many people thought of Marge as another mother and best friend - she was always the life of the party. Margie always looked forward to seeing and hearing from her children, grandchildren and her great-granddaughters who called her The Great One.
Marguerite is survived by her children: Claire Hunt, Richard Hunt, Roxanne Fertitta and Daniel Hunt, son-in-law, Frank Fertitta, daughter-in-law, Geri Hunt; grandchildren: Christopher Paul, Melissa Emmons, Frank Fertitta, and Danielle Fertitta; great-grandchildren: Julie Castelfranco, Violet Paul, Sydney Paul, and Harlow Paul. She is also survived by her sister, Alexandrine Cioffi and brother-in-law, Jack Cioffi. She was predeceased by her sister, Joan Fillot.
Visitation is Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home. Mass is Saturday at St. Joseph's in Rosebank at 9:30 a.m. Interment is in Woodbridge Memorial Garden.
