Margaret Martin, known to her family and friends as Peggy, passed away on October 24, 2024. Born on May 14, 1947, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Peggy moved to West Brighton, Staten Island, where she spent her childhood.
Peggy attended Saint Joseph Hill Academy then went on to Pratt Institute, where she received a Bachelor’s of Science degree. Continuing her education, she earned a graduate degree in dietetics from Penn State University. Peggy went on to become a registered dietitian. She began working for Servamation, where she was able to travel for a while before she relocated permanently to Massachusetts,
Peggy worked for years as a registered dietitian in Boston, including the Bank of Boston, before retiring from a State position. When she retired, Peggy volunteered at the Peabody Essex Museum.
During her time in Massachusetts, Peggy formed deep and lasting friendships that grew into an extended family. These friends became a cherished part of her life, offering her support, love, and companionship that endured through the years.
After a long and fulfilling career, Peggy moved to New Jersey ten years ago to be closer to her family, where she played an active role in the lives of her beloved niece, nephew and great nephews.
In her new community, Margaret continued to give back, becoming a dedicated volunteer and member of the Monmouth County Historical Society. She had a talent for creating warm and welcoming spaces, whether hosting dinner parties for family and friends or decorating her home for the holidays. She also found joy in gardening, nurturing beauty in her surroundings as she did in all aspects of her life.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents, Mary and James Martin, as well as her siblings James, Mary, John, and Christopher. She is survived by her sister, Suzanne Martin. Peggy was a devoted aunt to her niece, Nora Martin, and the late Walter Ivers, and her nephew, James Martin. She will also be remembered fondly by Jack Ivers, Max Ivers, and Aidan Ivers, along with her dear friends in Massachusetts, who became an extended family to her.
Peggy’s kindness, generosity, and love for her family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
