Born Lucy T. Leyden in Manhattan, she also lived in Jersey City before settling in Midland Beach with her family as a teenager.
Mrs. Murray worked as a correspondent for MetLife for 20 years, retiring in 1989. She also kept the books at Soft Paws Pet Sitting Service, a business owned by her daughter.
She was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary R.C. Church, Midland Beach.
Mrs. Murray was an avid reader and also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and solving crossword puzzles.
She was always willing to lend a helping hand or a sympathetic ear to friends, neighbors, and most importantly, to her family.
“I will greatly miss her loving companionship,” said her daughter, Geraldine Laverie. “Her surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren will deeply miss time spent and memories shared. Although she was small in stature, she will always be remembered for her loving and giving nature.”
Mrs. Murray’s husband, Owen, died in 2004, after 60 years of marriage. Her son, Dennis, died in 1980, and her son, Owen Jr., died in 1995.
In addition to her daughter, Geraldine, Mrs. Murray is survived by seven grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills. Burial will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
