Life-long staten islander, Lori grew up in West Brighton. Attended Curtis High school, and went on to become a Court stenographer with the appellate courts. During her time there, she also helped out on mayoral campaigns with the Conservative party. In 1988 she gave birth to her daughter Melissa Emma at St. Vincents. After welcoming her child, Lori had left her career to focus on being a stay at home mom with her daughter, and 3 stepchildren. Lori was an avid animal lover, and an excellent cook. In the 1990s she had won many cooking competitions published in the advance. In her spare time, Lori would crochet and try out new recipes. Mrs. Wheeler served as a chaplain at the Elks Lodge where she was a member for a period of time. Always the life of the party, and mayor of Staten Island. The flame might have been dimmed but will never be out.
Survivng Mrs. Wheeler is her husband Jeffrey Wheeler, her daughter Melissa O’Connor, her two brothers Allan and Robert Bentsen, nieces and nephews, and her three stepchildren Stephanie, Maurice, and Alexis.
After a private ceremony, when time is allotted, the family will be holding a celebration of her life. Details will soon follow. In lieu of flowers, we ask a charitable donation be made to any animal rescue of your choice in her name.
