Josephine was born in Brooklyn back in the days when Italian immigrants were still struggling to make a place for themselves in America. Her parents managed to give both her and her sister a sound education at Mother Cabrini high school in Washington Heights. Having graduated from high school, she gradually made her way into the banking world and eventually became an Officers Assistant in what was then Chemical Bank. She was a happily single lady but was a devoted aunt to her nephew and nieces, and eventually to her two grandnephews, Daniel and Diego. She came to love the outdoors and became an avid gardener, often preferring to spend long hours tending to her plants. She always had a fondness for rainy days, perhaps due to the promise that such weather would have for the well-being of her garden sanctuary. She learned to love painting and other crafts in her later years – of course specializing in paintings of plants and flowers – and adored going into Manhattan with her niece and grandnephews to shop or attend theater plays and museums. We will all miss “Auntie Jo” but are comforted in the thought that she is now tending to everyone’s gardens. She is survived by her nieces Audrey DeMarco, Andrea Bonsangue (Sal), nephews, Anthony DeMarco (Victoria) and grandnephews Diego DeMarco Cachoferio and Daniel Bonsangue. She was a dear sister to the late Olivia DeMarco.
