Born in upstate Marlboro NY with his 10 siblings, he relocated with his family to Brooklyn NY at a young age where he attended Lafayette High School. After graduating he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Korea. After receiving his honorable discharge, he worked as a butcher and later joined the NYC Department of Sanitation including a stint as a Sanitation Police Officer where he worked until his retirement in 1985. He continued working for Kansas meat packing in New Jersey. Known for his work ethic and deep devotion in providing for his family, he often held multiple jobs during his time with Sanitation which included working in his friend’s restaurant Pino’s in New York City to making deliveries for a candy and cigarettes wholesaler. Joseph was a devout Christian and enjoyed reading his Bible every morning. He enjoyed playing the card game Pinochle with his brothers and brothers in law.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marie Joan, daughter Maria and son in law Michael, son Anthony and daughter in law Sandy, and grandchildren Angelica, Jacqueline and Jason. In addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Joseph will be held Monday, January 1, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Clare Church, 110 Nelson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10308. A committal service will occur Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 12:15 PM at Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10309.
