Arrangements under the direction of Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Staten Island, NY.STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Joseph Donaghy, 90, of Eltingville, a retired city fire department inspector and horse-racing fan, died Thursday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze, of congestive heart failure.
Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Eltingville in 1984.
Mr. Donaghy was a city fire department inspector for 15 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a graduate of St. Michael's High School, Brooklyn.
Mr. Donaghy was an ardent horse-racing fan. He also enjoyed going out to dinner with his family.
He was a parishioner of St. Clare's R.C. Church, Great Kills.
He is survived by his sister, Winifred Donaghy.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a mass at 11 a.m. in St. Clare's Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
