Born January 27, 1935
to Mary E. & Thomas L. Steele in Albany,
NY John was raised in Staten Island,
with five siblings. He served in the Army,
Merchant Marines & was a construction
elevator operator. A lifelong Staten Islander,
well known for his community service, a
neighborhood fixture since the late 60’s,
he spent his life enjoying his extended family
through frequent gatherings.
We called him Santa;
his likeness uncanny,
his generosity even more grand.
Our beloved “Unc with Spunk” engaged
all generations with joy, good humor and
genuine acts of kindness.
John is survived by his sister-in-law Suzanne Steele,
twenty-one nieces & nephews,
thirty-two grand nieces & nephews
and ten great-grand nieces & nephews.
He loved & knew each of us.
Uncle John will be profoundly missed.
